What Did They Spend?

Marvel Studios has spent an estimated $200+ million on the marketing budget for Avengers: End Game. $50 million more than they usually spend on their movies.

How Did They Do It?

Early on, Marvel Studios was very cautious to reveal exactly what the last installment of an era would entail. In fact, they didn’t even reveal the title until the very first trailer hit the public. They also focused on only a few scenes, used old footage, and even digitally altered what was shown to hide details. Which is a completely different approach compared to previous Marvel films, but for this movie, it works.

Marvel really narrowed down on using partnerships to promote End Game. Which in hindsight… is such a great idea, especially given what Mindy Hamilton, SVP of Partnership Marketing at Walt Disney Company says this about the Marvel audience, “We’ve grown beyond our target audience of traditional fan boys; now it's millennial’s, it’s teens, it’s multicultural and families”

Because of their change in audience, Marvel Studios looks for partnerships that honor and celebrates the new audience.

By using a record of 10 custom partnership spots, The Avengers: End Game is hitting key audiences that traditional media can’t buy.
